Wellbeing week was a huge success, as there was a really positive response from all of our staff. This post highlights what some of our staff got up to during their day off, alongside images they sent us. It also includes a written entry that they each provided. At the end, you can see the winner of Argofield’s Wellbeing Week! Our winner took home a hamper full of treats for doing the most exciting activity out of all employees.
What is Wellbeing Week?
In September, we gave all staff a day off to do something that they would not otherwise have time to do. The principle of this was to provide time off for employees to improve their mental health after the COVID-19 pandemic. We thought it was important to wind down, as the pandemic caused us all a lot of stress and uncertainty. All staff worked hard throughout the pandemic and adjusted to changes in the workplace efficiently. Therefore, wellbeing week applauds everyone for their patience and adaptability throughout the various lockdowns.
Here’s what some of our staff got up to…
Runner Up
Hanna (Head of Finance) is the runner up of our wellbeing week as she made an extra special effort! Instead of using just one day of the week for her activity, she turned it into an impressive 20 day challenge in an attempt to ‘encourage her to open her mind to new possibilities and ways of being’. She believed that doing something small for 20 days would be enable her to implement self care on a more permanent level. Here is a quick summary of what Hanna got up to during her 20 day wellbeing week challenge…
On her first day, she made a plan of how to spend her wellbeing challenge and visited a local farm, spending some serene time with the animals. After that, she vowed to drink at least one litre of water every day throughout the challenge, and to add at least one positive event which happened that day to her calendar each evening.
Additionally, she took 30 minutes on one of the days to do something creative, spent 10 minutes focusing on solar energy by standing in the sun, and took a moment to talk to a friend who she lost contact with due to COVID. She also tried a new recipe, replaced food in the fridge with healthier options, spent a whole day without her phone, substituted an evening session of TV with reading a book, organised her home, watched a good comedy and planned a ‘date’ with her husband. She also consciously said ‘no’ to plans in order to set boundaries, recognising that we do not always need to please everyone who we come into contact with, and that saying no can sometimes benefit both parties in the long term.
Finally, Hanna spent her 20 day wellbeing challenge speaking to every one of her family members individually, spent some time on professional networking, spent 5 days without eating chocolate, and 5 days eating without TV or her phone in the background.
Winner of Wellbeing Week
Tanya (Warehouse Manager, Burnley office) is our winner of Argofield’s Wellbeing Week! She climbed Ben Nevis for her wellbeing day, alongside her mother and brother! Tanya said that the views on the way up were stunning! Ben Nevis is 1345m high, and it took them 8 hours to walk to the summit and back down. The weather was very foggy and rainy at the top and all the way back down, but it was still enjoyable. She experienced a few aches and pains the day after, but she is extremely happy to have made it to the top. We would like to congratulate Tanya for her amazing achievement!
Her prize is a relaxing hamper basket (shown below), which includes beauty products, a wooden massage tool, a journal, and some adult colouring books accompanied by some bits to eat and a bottle of prosecco.
Even though we did not include everyone’s images in this post, we would like to thank everyone who forwarded photos and details of their wellbeing activity. It was an incredibly uplifting week, and we enjoyed reading everyone’s entries. We hope everyone can reflect on their time spent away from work with fondness and an enhanced sense of wellbeing!
